My son’s 1st birthday is in a couple of weeks. I can’t believe my baby boy is already turning 1, where did the year go?! I’m sorting out what to do for the goody bags. I have some ideas, but since there are 30 kids attending his birthday party, cost is a factor. As a kid, I remember getting goody bags filled with candy and the proverbial party toys. Nowadays it seems as though the gift bag has become a more important part of a child’s birthday party. I took an informal poll and asked some people: What do you think is an appropriate amount to spend per bag? How would you feel if you attended a party and the host skipped on having gift bags? These were their responses: “Depends on where the party is hosted I guess.... and if you spend too much money on goody bags it's practically wasted when the kid's get home and loose everything!!!!” “My philosophy on gift bags: it should be age appropriate based on the age of the child's birthday not the guests that are coming. Example, bubble gum or jawbreakers should not be in a gift bag of a 1st birthday or a toddler birthday.” “It's cool if it's something thoughtful or useful, but it’s usually a bunch of candy or little toys that get added to the toy junk file. I am guilty of it. Would not be disappointed if we did not get one.” “SWAG at a kid’s party is just really out of control! I thought you were supposed to BRING a gift to a party, not go and expect to GET one?!” What are your thoughts on the goody bag? Let us know!
