We recently attended a birthday party for my daughter's friend. Amidall the activities, I took a real look at the "landscape" and a hugesmile came across my face. What a beautiful site, it looked like a miniversion of the United Nations! There were Indian, Caucasian, Latino,Asian, African American, and biracial children playing happilytogether. It was a true melting pot. What was more impressive about thescene though, was the interactions amongst the parents. Although we allhailed from different ethnic backgrounds, race was not an issue and thediversity of the group was welcomed and embraced. No one felt like theodd man out or was made to feel uncomfortable because of his or herculture. The common thread binding us was our children and our love forthem. That night, before I went to bed I reflected on the day and onceagain smiled. A group of people from different ethnicities comingtogether, not caring where each other is from, but reveling in thebeauty of each other's culture. This "landscape" is the norm my husbandand I desire for our children. By exposing them to different cultureswe hope to foster an environment based on acceptance and love; anenvironment where a person is measured by his / her merits, and not bythe color of their skin, shape of their eyes, accent in speech, orstyle of dress. At Kiki's Corner, we hope you too will feelwelcomed as you see images of yourself and your children in our line ofcustomizable invitations and announcements. Our goal is to create a"corner" of the world where anyone can come, feel comfortable, and findthemselves...a place where there is something for everyone!
